Happy Pi Day to all of the pie-lovers! If you’ve been out of school for a while, you may not remember much about pi or the significance of this day, so here’s a little history lesson to jog your memory. 

Pi Day was started by a physicist to celebrate the mathematical sign pi. March 14th was chosen as the date because the numerical date, 3.14, is also the first three digits of pi. Coincidentally, but appropriately, March 14th is also Albert Einstein’s birthday! So what is pi? It’s the number that you’ll get every single time you calculate the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. 

Somewhere along the way, Pi Day became the perfect opportunity to eat one of the world’s most delicious desserts, pie. In fact, lots of companies that make pie or pizza pies celebrate Pi Day with discounts. And we’re not complaining because sometimes math hurts our head, but pie only ever makes us happy!
